What are Handling Boxes?
Handling boxes are crates (typically 50*35*22cm) containing original and replica objects which students can handle, as an aid to learning about different subjects. ESM offer handling boxes containing objects which range from prehistory to modern day. Most handling boxes hold 15 to 25 objects, plus an information booklet; hire cost is £20 for one box, £30 for two or more.

How Handling Boxes can help classes
The boxes makes lessons at KS2 and KS3 more participative and enjoyable. Children enjoy hands-on history! Box contents are designed to complement the national curriculum, especially for history and geography.
Most schools hire handling boxes for in-school use, but we can also hold sessions at the museum on request. Please note that sessions inside the museum outside of our normal opening hours are subject to a charge.
